Fairly good room with very modern design, mini bar, WiFi. Rich breakfast selection with pastries and jams and many options to choose from. Good service too.

Brand new hotel with very modern rooms, spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pool with nice terrace. Breakfast buffet is good, restaurant is excellent. The concierge was very helpful and gave us excellent tips for visiting the area. Excellent massage service at the spa.
Swimming pools and indoor parking require extra payment, but free parking is more or less tolerated in front of the hotel. Room service was poor and didn't always understand English. No pay per view, a bit surprising for a five stars. No kettle for some in-room coffee or tea -- everything must be ordered through room service. Although rooms can be affordable, extra services (spa, room service, restaurant, etc.) are far from cheap. Unless you have a car, be prepared to take the taxi for any trip to the city and back (6 eur each time).

The breakfast was varied and well-stocked, we had it in the bar.
Shame the bathroom was dirty.

Very good service, lovely modern hotel.
Breads, cereal, yoghourt, fruit and cheese for a varied and warm breakfast with many options to choose from. Fast check-in and late check-out, parking outside. A bar in the lobby...

The most beautifully designed hotel we have ever seen (ultra-modern with great style). An extremely helpful staff. Large rooms. Good (but not great) breakfast choices. Limited free outdoor parking (or you can pay for underground).
The a/c did not work in the room we were given -- we had to move after unpacking. But the staff were extremely helpful (and we received fruitbowls every day of our stay for the inconvenience). The door to the shower and adjoining toilet was extremely hard to move.

Hotel is very modern, with fast free wifi everywhere. Electronic switches and computer controlled tv in the room work rather well, after a short learning curve.
Not a criticism of the hotel per si, but it is quite far from city center.

Varied breakfast with a good choice of options, 1st class and clean place. Breakfast with many options to choose from. Efficient and excellent staff and marvellous location adjacent to the Melia Braga, the centre, and restaurant. Also, on the hill.

The hotel is called Melia, not Melia! We were there because our daughter had just got married in Holland and this trip to Portugal was our wedding present, as such the hotel upgraded the newly weds to a suit for three nights which was really very nice. We had a normal room but even that one was very nicely decorated, very quiet. Breakfast was nice too and if you book when you check in it is cheaper. The pool facilies were nice, we didn't try the spa, only thing is that even the big pool is built thinking of children so there is not much space to swim, most of it is too shalow although they have a kid's pool!
Again the depth of the pool... I don't need a deep pool but I like to swim so 1,50m would be nice but in most of the pool the water only comes till the knees. They have nice chairs to float around in the pool, though! Our room had a windown between the bedroom and the bathroom, very design but not practical if one is still asleep while the other uses the bathroom (some rooms have a courtain). Too little light to apply make up and wrong light as well which makes shadows under the eyes. Our daughter was near the elevator which makes a lot of noise because of a useless tape which doesn't stop talking. The duvet was awfully thick seeing that we had very high temperatures and we don't like to sleep with the airco on!

The space was clean and spacious. The design of the common areas caught my attention. Staff seemed fine, and I appreciated the overall environment. I had a nice experience with the gym facilities. Being single and from New York, I'd expect more from a place that claims to offer luxury.
I noticed things that could improve, like the air conditioning not being very effective. There were delays in service at times, notably in the dining area.
